With its new pull-out News Supplement (inaugurated in no. 34), as well as its other new pull-out supplement presenting composers, Brass Bulletin is seeking to stimulate news and communication.

Thus the body of the magazine will comprise basically the in-depth articles and those sections not primarily of current interest.

The News Supplement (Competition Calendar, Diary, World News, presentation of musicians and ensembles, small ads etc.) will concentrate more on current events. Being detachable it will be easier to carry around or to pass on to other people. Readers are specially invited to supply suitable material for this supplement as quickly as possible.

The Composer Presentation Supplement is intended to build a bridge between instrumentalists and composers. It will appear first in the next issue (December, no. 36). We are inviting certain composers, representing the most diverse tendencies, to compose a short musical sketch — exclusive, not previously published — for our brass instruments (free instrumentation) in order to give us an opportunity to study their art for ourselves. This presentation will include a short biographical note and a list of compositions involving our family of instruments in particular.

If these improvements are to your liking, you can demonstrate this best by finding a new subscriber, using the subscription forms attached. Thank you!

Now the bad news: price rises in the printing industry

(mainly in the price of paper) will oblige us to follow suit, albeit reluctantly, in 1982, while keeping the increase to a minimum. Our prices have not changed since 1978. We thank you in advance for being so understanding. There is on the other hand no change for our subscribers in the United States and Canada because of the rise in the value of the dollar.
