In order to compensate for the disparity, Brass Bulletin has taken three initiatives:
- We strive to bring articles that should interest all musicians, even if their particular instrument is not directly concerned. Brass instruments have so much in common that it can only be to one’s advantage to be informed about specialities, novelties and difficulties of the instruments played by our colleagues. It enables us to get a better understanding of the subtleties of orchestration and to make better use of the resources of an ensemble.
- We are attempting to form an editorial staff of capable, well-informed, impartial and dynamic musicians for each instrument, which means that every brass instrument will be considered and a high level of the articles guaranteed.
As one of the first to accord us spontaneous collaboration we have the pleasure to introduce to our readers the brilliant young tuba player Roger Bobo, solo tuba of the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, member of the Los Angeles Brass Quintet and a renowned soloist. He also offered to charge himself with the development of the « Tuba section » of Brass Bulletin. We give him a hearty welcome! - We stimulate brass players to write articles of general interest.
As you see, we are always busy trying to improve Brass Bulletin, but of course we cannot do so single-handed: we need your cooperation! Please do not forget our definition: Brass Bulletin is a periodical written by musicians for musicians. Will you collaborate too?
We are not yet in possession of all the questionnaires re: IBA, enclosed in our last issue, as our overseas colleagues receive our periodical 5 to 6 weeks later than the Europeans. We shall be able to publish the results in Brass Bulletin no. 12, October 1975.
