BRASS BULLETIN is the realization of an old dream: the re-awakening of the Guild.
Today our instruments are in ever-increasing public favor. Every one of us should seize this opportunity.
For our part, we will try to offer brass players a centralized source of information and the opportunity to exchange ideas.

BRASS BULLETIN will seek to uncover the brass player’s basic problems. We hope to set in motion a permanent debate which can only be fruitful for us.

Our specific music literature will be analyzed and criticized in musicological essays and organological studies, so that everyone can enrich and improve his repertoire, bringing an individual note into the existing material. (A pity that, up to now, this has usually happened by imitating, as “well” as possible, the repertoire of the leading players!)

Dear friends, BRASS BULLETIN is your periodical.
Those of us who work for it unsparingly are engaging their time and strength.
It goes without saying that time is money, and that both are involved.
In addition, the endeavor takes time away from our own personal musical activity.
Your help and support, through a subscription to the first three numbers, word of mouth, etc., would mean a great deal to us and make our efforts possible.

BRASS BULLETIN is ready at any time to publish interesting material sent to us (history, technique, anecdotes, etc.).
Moreover, our “Correspondance” column is open to everyone for questions, personal contact, and the like.

At this point I would like to thank all our collaborators, from the typist to the musicologist, for assisting me in this trilingual adventure.
Without their generous support it would not be possible to carry on such a project.

Jean-Pierre Mathez

BRASS BULLETIN 2 and 3 will appear in the spring and fall of 1972.
